Exploring possibilities for the environment

Environmental sustainability is more than a responsibility. It’s a powerful opportunity to create value in how we do business, how we serve our customers and how we engage employees. As a company that relies on the earth’s resources, we strive to strike a balance in growing efficiently while reducing the environmental impact of our actions. We are continuing to discover the best means to achieve this balance.

Our Commitment to Wind: The Renewable Energy Project
It would be difficult to miss the five 20-kilowatt wind turnbines standing beside Menasha Corporation's headquarters in Neenah, Wis. They generate enough energy to power the office's computers for more than 100 employees.

The turbines are not typical wind-farm towers; they are designed for urban use, mounted on 100-foot towers with blades spanning 15 feet. The turbine project plays a key role in Menasha’s commitment to incrementally shift energy consumption to cleaner technologies.

Our Headquarters is LEED Gold Certified
Menasha Corporation's headquarters building constructed in 2016 in Neenah, Wis., has been LEED Gold certified for its sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection and indoor environmental quality. Reclaimed wood is used throughout the building, includng the company's heritage area.

The LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) rating system, developed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), is the foremost recognition program for buildings that are designed, constructed, maintained and operated for improved envrionmental and human health performance.

Recycling Products for Home, Business and Communities

Our ORBIS division manufactures and markets high quality waste diversion and recycling products in the U.S., Canada and beyond. In fact, we have the largest line of “blue bins” for curbside recycling on the market.

Green Bin and Green Bin+

We've created the Green Bin and Green Bin+ to lead in the production of carts for organic waste recycling and collection. And, our Earth Machine Backyard Compost Bin offers homeowners an effortless approach to keeping housefhold waste from going to landfills. The ORBIS line also includes products that help people collect and divert rainwater. This reduces the amount of water entering storm sewers and helps conserve municipal water supplies.

93% Recycling Rate

Corrugated—like that used in Menasha Packaging products—is the single most recycled packaging material: 93% of corrugated produced in 2016 was recovered for recycling, and almost all of that material was recycled into new products. (Source: Corrugated Packaging Alliance)

Menasha Packaging has received certification from the Programme for the Endorsement Forest Certification (PEFC), the world’s largest forest certification organization. This label certifies that Menasha products are made from sustainability sourced and managed forests.

Less Energy per Lb. of Plastic

New energy-efficient presses at ORBIS’ plant in Urbana, Ohio, are effectively lowering energy used per pound of molded plastic. The equipment offers an effective prototype for more sustainable plastic processing.

Menasha Packaging is ISTA 6-Amazon Certified

A Menasha Packaging test lab is a certified International Safe Transit Association (ISTA) packaging provider. ISTA focuses on transport packaging and is the leading industry developer of testing protocols and design standards that define how packages should perform to ensure protection of its contents. Menasha Packaging has certified labs with the ability to conduct multiple ISTA testing procedures inclusive of the 6 Series Amazon tests.

Reprocessing Plastic

ORBIS works with customers to recover containers or pallets at the end of their service life and recycle or reprocess them into other useful products.

Efficient Storage at Plant

A Menasha Packaging plant found more efficient ways to store prepress materials. The end result was a 95% space savings, and a 70% reduction in inventoried materials.

ORBIS Containers Gain up to 20% in Shipping Density, Eliminates Wasted Space and Reduces Freight Costs

ORBIS’ BulkPak® containers are collapsible, allowing more containers to be packed for a return truckload. 252 collapsed bins per truckload can be returned, versus the standard 208 bins per return truckload – a gain up to 20% in shipping density for automakers and tier suppliers.
