Exploring possibilities for the environment

Environmental sustainability is more than a responsibility. It’s a powerful opportunity to create value in how we do business, how we serve our customers and how we engage employees. As a company that relies on the earth’s resources, we strive to strike a balance in growing efficiently while reducing the environmental impact of our actions. We are continuing to discover the best means to achieve this balance.

Our Committment to Wind: The Renewable Energy Project

It would be difficult to miss the five 20-kilowatt wind turbines standing beside the Menasha Packaging office and corporate headquarters in Neenah, Wis. They generate enough energy to power the office’s computers for more than 100 employees.

The turbines are not typical wind-farm towers; they are designed for urban use, mounted on 100-foot towers with blades spanning 15 feet. The turbine project plays a key role in Menasha’s commitment to incrementally shift energy consumption to cleaner technologies.

Recycling Products for Home, Business and Communities

Our ORBIS division manufactures and markets high quality waste diversion and recycling products in the U.S., Canada and beyond. In fact, we have the largest line of “blue bins” for curbside recycling on the market.

We’ve created the Green Bin and Green Bin+ to lead in the production of carts for organic waste recycling and collection. And, our Earth Machine Backyard Compost Bin offers homeowners an effortless approach to keeping household waste from going to landfills. The ORBIS line also includes products that help people collect and divert rainwater. This reduces the amount of water entering storm sewers and helps conserve municipal water supplies.

91% Recycling Rate

Corrugated—like that used in Menasha Packaging products—is the single most recycled packaging material: 91% of corrugated produced in 2012 was recovered for recycling, and almost all of that material was recycled into new products. (Source: Corrugated Packaging Alliance)

Reducing Damage

A new vacuum system installed on an industrial press in ORBIS’ Silao, Mexico, plant, has successfully addressed reoccurring waste due to damaged foam pads caused by sharp pieces of scrap.

Leadership Program Pilots Energy Management

Menasha Packaging’s Hartford, Wis., facility joined a select number of the state’s largest industrial energy users in Focus on Energy’s SEM (Strategic Energy Management) Leaders Program. The initiative works to improve energy performance by integrating energy considerations into an organization’s decision-making. When the SEM process is complete, the Hartford facility will have a leading-edge continuous improvement program in place to optimize energy use and contribute to the plant’s cost competitiveness.

Many companies “do” environmental stewardship. At Menasha Corporation and our companies, we receive awards for it. Learn more >
